I especially like it for families, couples and multigenerational trips where the goal is beach, water, good food and time together without an enormous resort agenda.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay is on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.
Virgin Gorda is smaller and considerably quieter than Tortola, which is part of the appeal. The resort occupies its own crescent bay surrounded by hills and tropical landscape rather than sitting in the middle of a developed tourist strip.
This is a place you deliberately go to, not somewhere you accidentally end up between cruise-ship excursions.
How do you get to Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
There are two particularly easy ways to arrive.
You can fly into Virgin Gorda Airport, VIJ, and take a roughly five-minute drive to the resort.
Or you can fly into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, EIS, on Tortola. Rosewood then arranges a roughly 20-minute boat transfer directly to the resort.
I tend to favor whichever routing gives you the cleanest flight connections. Once Rosewood takes over the transfer, the complicated part is essentially finished.
How far is Rosewood Little Dix Bay from Tortola Airport?
The resort is approximately a 20-minute boat ride from Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, EIS, on Tortola.
Rosewood can arrange the transfer so that after clearing the airport, you are brought to the jetty and continue to Virgin Gorda by boat.
Arriving at your hotel by boat has the useful psychological effect of making the vacation feel like it started several hours earlier.
Can you get to Little Dix Bay from St. Thomas?
Yes. St. Thomas is another possible gateway into the British Virgin Islands.
Rosewood lists the journey from St. Thomas as approximately one hour by boat, although international immigration and customs logistics need to be factored into the itinerary.
I would compare the St. Thomas, Tortola and Virgin Gorda routings before booking flights rather than assuming the cheapest airfare creates the easiest trip.
Does Rosewood Little Dix Bay have a good beach?
Yes. The beach is one of the primary reasons to stay here.
Little Dix Bay has a half-mile crescent of sand framed by green hills, with clear Caribbean water directly in front of the resort.
Unlike some luxury Caribbean hotels where the property is spectacular but the actual beach feels secondary, Little Dix Bay is fundamentally a beach resort.
Can you swim at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
Oui.
The resort sits on a sheltered bay, and swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing are all part of the experience.
As with any Caribbean beach, water conditions can change with weather. But this is absolutely a hotel I would choose for someone who actually intends to spend time in the sea rather than simply admire it from an infinity pool.
What are the Beach Drops at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
This is one of my favorite things about the resort.
Rosewood offers complimentary Beach Drops by boat to secluded beaches around Virgin Gorda. The hotel takes you to one of several beaches, provides towels and umbrellas, and leaves you there for a few hours to swim, snorkel and enjoy what is essentially your own little piece of the island.
A picnic can also be arranged.
It is an unusually good hotel amenity because it gets you off-property without turning the day into an excursion with a clipboard and a meeting point.
Are Beach Drops at Little Dix Bay complimentary?
Yes. Rosewood currently includes its scheduled Beach Drops for hotel guests.
They operate at set departure times and should be arranged through the resort.
I would absolutely book at least one during a stay. Virgin Gorda has too many beautiful little coves to spend the entire week looking at only one of them.
Is Rosewood Little Dix Bay good for families?
Très.
Rosewood Explorers is complimentary for children ages 4 to 12 and includes activities tied to Caribbean culture, nature and the island environment rather than simply indoor entertainment.
Children can also snorkel, kayak, sail, explore beaches, play tennis and participate in family activities throughout the resort.
It feels family-friendly without the entire hotel feeling designed around children, which is usually the balance I am looking for.
Is Rosewood Little Dix Bay good with babies and toddlers?
Yes, and Rosewood has made this considerably easier than many small Caribbean resorts.
Its Rose Buds program can provide items including cribs, highchairs, baby bathtubs, diaper pails, bottle warmers, baby monitors and strollers. Babysitting can also be arranged.
The kids' club itself is geared toward older children, but the practical baby equipment matters just as much when you are traveling with very young children.
Packing a bottle warmer to the British Virgin Islands should not be a prerequisite for relaxation.
What are the best rooms at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
I would choose based on who is traveling and how much you care about being directly beside the beach.
The Beach Front Cottages are particularly appealing for couples because they sit just a short walk from the water and have private patios and outdoor garden showers.
Families should look closely at the Ocean View Junior Suites with two queen beds, which accommodate up to four guests, as well as the larger two-bedroom suites.
For something more special, the Tree House Suites have wraparound views and much more space, while the pool suites and private villas give you another level of privacy.
This is not a property where everyone needs the top category to have a beautiful stay.
Are the Tree House Suites at Little Dix Bay worth it?
They can be, especially for a romantic trip or when the room itself is meant to be part of the vacation.
The Tree House Suites are approximately 970 square feet, with wraparound beach views, extensive outdoor living space and indoor-outdoor showers.
They also reference the original tree houses that were part of Little Dix Bay's early design.
For a couple celebrating something significant, I would absolutely compare one with a standard beachfront category before booking.
Does Rosewood Little Dix Bay have two-bedroom accommodations?
Oui.
The Rosewood Two-Bedroom Suite accommodates up to eight guests and can be configured with two king beds or one king and two queen beds, plus additional rollaways or cribs.
The resort also has larger beach houses and villas for families and groups who want more privacy.
For a multigenerational trip, I would compare those options carefully with simply booking several independent rooms. Sometimes the upgrade into shared living space changes the entire feel of the vacation.
Does everyone at Rosewood Little Dix Bay get a butler?
Yes. Rosewood currently includes dedicated butler service for hotel guests.
The butler team can help coordinate everything from dining and activities to Beach Drops and the practical details of the stay.
At a hotel like this, I find the best butler service is not theatrical. It simply means the things you were about to think about have already been handled.
Is Rosewood Little Dix Bay good for a honeymoon?
Très.
The setting is secluded, rooms are spread along the bay rather than stacked in a large hotel building, and there are private beach dinners, boat trips, couples' spa treatments and plenty of places to disappear.
I particularly like it for honeymooners who want a quiet Caribbean trip but still want enough to do that five days do not become one uninterrupted sequence of beach chairs.
For a honeymoon, I would look closely at the Tree House Suites, pool suites and beachfront accommodations.
Is Rosewood Little Dix Bay good for a multigenerational family trip?
Yes, especially when the family wants to spend meaningful time together without having to do everything together.
Children can go to Rosewood Explorers or spend the morning snorkeling. Adults can use the spa, play tennis or pickleball, take a boat out or do absolutely nothing. Larger suites and villas make it possible to create shared living space without putting everyone in adjoining standard rooms.
There is also enough happening on property that grandparents do not need to join every excursion simply to participate in the vacation.
What is the spa like at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
Sense, A Rosewood Spa sits on a cliff overlooking the Sir Francis Drake Channel, separate from the main beach area.
There are eight individual treatment rooms as well as a couples' Cliff Spa Suite with its own private terrace and ocean views.
The setting is genuinely special enough that I would schedule a treatment even on a relatively short stay.
This is not one of those hotel spas that exists because someone found an unused room near the gym.
Does Rosewood Little Dix Bay have tennis and pickleball?
Oui.
The resort has six tennis courts and two pickleball courts, with lessons and clinics available.
Between tennis, pickleball, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, fitness classes and the spa, Little Dix Bay works particularly well for couples or families where some people become restless after approximately forty-seven minutes on a lounge chair.
Are water sports included at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
Several non-motorized water sports are complimentary for hotel guests, including kayaking, snorkeling equipment, stand-up paddleboarding and Hobie Cat sailing.
Boat rentals, yacht charters, fishing and other more elaborate excursions can also be arranged at an additional cost.
I would definitely spend at least one day on the water. The British Virgin Islands make much more sense once you start moving between them by boat.
Do you need a rental car at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
No.
If your plan is primarily resort, beach, spa and boating, I would not rent a car for the entire trip. Rosewood provides transportation around the property and can arrange island tours or vehicle rentals when you actually want one.
I would consider renting a jeep for a day if you want to explore Virgin Gorda independently, particularly The Baths and some of the island's other beaches.
Otherwise, I would happily let someone else drive.
Can you visit The Baths from Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
Yes, and you should.
The Baths National Park is one of Virgin Gorda's signature sights, known for its enormous granite boulders, pools, caves and beaches.
It is easy to incorporate into a Little Dix Bay stay, either independently or with transportation and touring arranged through the hotel.
I would generally go earlier in the day when possible, then return to the resort before you begin feeling that sightseeing has interfered with your beach vacation.
How many nights should you stay at Rosewood Little Dix Bay?
For most travelers, I like five nights.
Four nights works if Little Dix Bay is being combined with another British Virgin Island. Five or six gives you enough time for the beach, a Beach Drop, a boat day, The Baths, spa and several completely unstructured afternoons.
With children, I would happily stay a week.
The slightly more involved journey to Virgin Gorda also makes me less enthusiastic about staying only two or three nights. Once you have arrived somewhere this lovely, leaving immediately seems unnecessarily efficient.
When did Rosewood Little Dix Bay open?
Little Dix Bay originally opened in 1964, created by conservationist Laurance Rockefeller as one of the Caribbean's early environmentally sensitive resorts.
Rosewood began operating the property in the 1990s.
Following an extensive four-year renovation and rebuilding period, the resort reopened in January 2020 with updated accommodations, restaurants and public spaces while retaining the low-rise design and connection to the landscape that defined the original.
It has history without feeling remotely like a hotel preserved in amber.
