Airelles Courchevel has turrets, frescoes, carved wood and no particular interest in restraint. It is the full Alpine fantasy, but the detail that interests me most is less photogenic: someone helps you into warm ski boots. A beautiful hotel is considerably more appealing when getting onto the mountain does not require a family meeting.
Set directly on the slopes in the Jardin Alpin, this French Palace would be high on my list for a family wanting Courchevel to feel like an occasion. The attraction is not simply the decor. It is how much thought has gone into what everyone will actually do once they arrive.

Why Airelles works so well for families
The ski valets warm boots, prepare equipment and carry skis. Genuine slope-side access means coming back for lunch or a shorter afternoon does not become its own expedition. These are small details until you are managing several children, several helmets and one person who has already decided they are cold.
Winter Camp is considerably more than a room with markers. Younger children have an indoor mini village, workshops, an ice rink and a heated treehouse. Teenagers get a separate arcade-style space with pool, air hockey, simulators and cinema screens. Everyone does not have to pretend to enjoy the same activity simply because they share parents.
That also gives parents the possibility of skiing together, rather than taking turns being off duty. I would confirm the club’s ages, hours and programming before organizing your days around it, especially during school holidays. A wonderful children’s program is most useful when it is open at the time you need it.
Still deciding
Almost everyone looking at Airelles is also looking at Cheval Blanc, L’Apogée or Aman, and the choice usually turns on two things: the ages of your children and how many actual bedrooms you need. Tell me those, and I will tell you which of the Courchevel Palaces fits the week you are planning.

I use the term carefully, because hotels have become extremely creative with the definition. At Airelles the ski access is one of the genuine strengths of the property: the hotel sits in the Jardin Alpin with direct access into Courchevel and the wider Three Valleys network, and the ski-valet operation is designed to move you from the hotel onto the mountain rather than merely placing you somewhere near snow.
For families, that matters considerably. You can come back during the day without turning lunch into an expedition, younger children can have shorter ski sessions without inconveniencing everyone else, and parents can divide and reconvene much more easily.
When I compare ski hotels for families, I care almost as much about this daily friction as I do about the room itself. A beautiful hotel that makes every morning complicated stops feeling quite so beautiful by Thursday.
Which room should you book at Airelles Courchevel?

At these rates, “everyone technically fits” is not the standard I would use.
For a family of four wanting two proper bedrooms, I would look closely at the Aubépine and Cardamine Suites. Each has two en-suite bathrooms, a substantial sitting area and two balconies overlooking the Jardin Alpin and slopes. One bedroom sits inside the hotel’s tower, which may settle the children’s room debate before anyone has unpacked.
Larger families should compare Lys Martagon, accommodating five or six guests; Gentiane, accommodating six; and L’Appartement, accommodating eight. Chalet Ormello is an option for up to 15. For couples, I would start with the Junior Prestige categories and consider the view and position, not just square footage.
The right choice depends on how you want to live for the week, particularly after the children go to bed. I would compare suites and connecting rooms before assuming that more room keys make a better arrangement.
What parents should know before booking
The family setup is the strongest reason I would consider Airelles over several of its competitors. Winter Camp includes a dedicated indoor children’s world with a play fort, workshops and toys for younger children, along with skiing, skating and outdoor winter activities.

Airelles also has a separate teen-oriented arcade club with pool, air hockey, instruments, simulator games and two cinema screens. Winter programming can include husky rides, ice hockey and magic shows, and the ski setup includes equipment and staff support for children as well.
What I particularly like is that older children have not been forgotten. Many luxury kids clubs are wonderful at age six and considerably less persuasive at thirteen, and Airelles has deliberately created different spaces rather than expecting teenagers to be delighted by the same program as small children.
I would still verify the exact Winter Camp hours and age-specific programming for your dates, especially during holiday periods, because those details matter if parents are counting on skiing together for several hours. As a general family proposition, though, this is much more substantial than a hotel simply saying it is good with children.
The half-board rate deserves a closer look
Airelles is expensive. It also includes enough that comparing the headline rate alone can be misleading. The half-board offer includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner at the hotel or participating mountain restaurants, alongside ski-valet service, children’s programming, spa access, chauffeur service around Courchevel 1850 and other extras. I check the exact restaurants, supplements and inclusions for your dates before making comparisons.
Dining variety helps: Palladio for Italian, Le Coin Savoyard for fondue and raclette, Matsuhisa for a change of direction, and La Table des Airelles. Participating slope-side restaurants also mean you needn’t organize your ski day around returning to the same dining room. I would still reserve strategically, particularly over Christmas, New Year and February school holidays.
The value is strongest when you will actually use what you are paying for. A family spending meaningful time at the hotel gets more from Airelles than one disappearing at breakfast and returning at bedtime.
The Winter Camp and teen club
Airelles calls its family program Winter Camp, and it is one of the rare cases where the marketing name corresponds to a fairly substantial operation. Younger children have an indoor mini village with play spaces, workshops and staff, while ski and skating activities take them outside.
There is a dedicated rink and a heated treehouse, and the team can help with ski equipment and instruction. When energy drops, which it eventually does even in Courchevel, the children can come back inside for snacks and hot chocolate rather than being marched through an aggressively wholesome full-day schedule.
Older children and teenagers have a completely separate arcade club with pool, air hockey, music, street-art-inspired design, simulator games and cinema screens. For a family with children several years apart, I think this is one of the hotel’s biggest advantages. Everyone does not have to pretend to enjoy the same activity simply because they share parents.
Non-skiers have a perfectly respectable itinerary
The spa has an indoor pool, hammam, snow cave and La Mer treatments, with cryotherapy available for recovery. There is enough here to make an afternoon off feel like a decision rather than a defeat. For multigenerational trips, I particularly like that someone can have a lovely day without putting on a ski boot or explaining why they would rather not.

A week in a ski hotel requires dining variety more than a two-night city stay does, and Airelles has a particularly broad lineup. The current restaurants include La Table des Airelles, Matsuhisa, Akari, Palladio and Le Coin Savoyard, as well as Chalet de Pierres and La Fruitière on the mountain.
Palladio covers Italian, while Le Coin Savoyard handles the Alpine requirement for fondue, raclette and Beaufort. La Table des Airelles is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Matsuhisa gives you a completely different option during a longer stay.
This matters particularly because the half-board program can extend to dining on the slopes as well as in the hotel. You are not necessarily choosing between eating the same hotel dinner repeatedly or ignoring a benefit you already paid for. I would still make reservations strategically before arrival, especially over Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays.
Airelles, Cheval Blanc or Aman?
I would lean Airelles for families who want substantial children’s programming and the full festive atmosphere. Cheval Blanc Courchevel is the comparison for a more restrained aesthetic; Aman Le Mélézin for a quieter retreat after skiing. Airelles is not trying to be discreet about the fact that you are on a rather wonderful winter holiday. That will either delight you or send you happily toward Aman.
