From the outside, COMO Le Beauvallon looks like exactly what it is: a grand Belle Époque hotel that has been presiding over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez since 1914. Then you walk into the room and there is a transparent glass bathtub. Not quite what you were expecting.
COMO reopened this century-old Riviera landmark in April 2026 with just 42 rooms and suites, and rather than turning it into another reverential restoration full of antiques and tassels, the interiors are bright, modern and slightly playful. There are crisp white walls, contemporary art, huge windows and an almost surprising amount of glass. Condé Nast Traveler specifically calls out the glass bathtubs, while COMO’s Beauvallon Suites have open bathrooms with transparent tubs and double showers incorporated into the suite itself.
It is a fun contrast. Belle Époque outside, very 2026 inside. And then there is the other feature that may matter even more in August: an eight-minute boat to Saint-Tropez.

Some suites have a transparent bathtub open to the bedroom. That is wonderful for a couple and a genuine problem for two friends sharing.

The room choice matters more than the room name
This is one of those hotels where I would want to know exactly who is traveling before choosing a category, because some of the differences are much more meaningful than another twenty square meters. Certain Beauvallon Suites have an intentionally open bathroom with a transparent bathtub and double shower incorporated into the room itself. Delightful for a couple. Potentially an extraordinary bonding exercise for two friends.
For couples, I would look first at the sea-facing categories. The Beauvallon Suites are around 50 to 55 square meters, while the Panoramic Beauvallon Suites sit on the top floor with some of the best views across the Gulf. On a first stay, I would happily prioritize the view over simply paying for more interior space. The nearly 200-square-meter COMO Suite is spectacular, but bigger is not automatically better if what you really want is to wake up looking across Saint-Tropez.
Families have a particularly good option in the Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite, roughly 103 square meters with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a separate living room and a large terrace. Two actual bedrooms, not one bedroom plus a sofa everyone has agreed to call one. For five or six guests, several suites can connect, and I would build the configuration around the ages of the children rather than simply choosing whichever combination appears online.
This is exactly where room advice becomes useful. The most expensive category is not necessarily the best one, and the room with the beautiful bathtub may not be the room you want to share with your mother-in-law.
Worth knowing before you book a suite: the smaller Beauvallon Suites are open plan, with the tub and shower in the room itself. Charming for couples, awkward for anyone else.
The eight-minute boat may be the best amenity at the hotel
On a map, being across the Gulf from Saint-Tropez can initially look like a disadvantage. In July and August, I could make a very persuasive argument that it is the opposite. COMO runs a complimentary boat from its private pontoon directly into the port in roughly eight minutes, so you can go shopping, have lunch or spend the evening in town and then return to the gardens and pool without sitting in Saint-Tropez traffic contemplating the choices that brought you here.
That changes the rhythm of the trip. You can participate fully in Saint-Tropez without needing to live inside it. Spend the afternoon in town, come back for a swim, change for dinner and decide whether you would like to go out again. No parking strategy, no crawling through traffic, no family discussion about whether leaving the hotel was a catastrophic mistake. It sounds convenient when you are planning. In high summer, it may feel like genius.
Twenty-five metres, mosaic-tiled, in ten acres of gardens. The other pool is down at the beach club, which is a different afternoon entirely.
It works particularly well for families with older children
COMO Le Beauvallon is family-friendly, but it is not pretending to be a traditional family resort. There is a children’s playroom, but it is unsupervised, and babysitting can be arranged. If the dream is six hours of organized children’s programming while the adults disappear for lunch, I would send you to Château de La Messardière instead.
What COMO does exceptionally well is give families space. Proper two-bedroom suites, connecting configurations, large grounds, a pool, the beach and a boat into Saint-Tropez make it especially appealing with school-age children and teenagers. They have enough to do without the whole hotel being designed around them, and parents can put everyone to bed without discovering that their own evening now takes place silently in the bathroom.
For me, that is a far more interesting version of family luxury.

You do not need to organize a beach club every day
The 25-meter pool sits within the gardens, while Beauvallon Sur Mer gives you the beach-club half of the Saint-Tropez experience without having to arrange another reservation somewhere else. Yannick Alléno oversees the culinary direction, so staying at the hotel for lunch or dinner does not feel like settling.
I would absolutely still spend a day at Pampelonne. Part of Saint-Tropez is having at least one lunch that somehow consumes most of the afternoon. But you do not need to organize your entire week around reservations. Some days the correct plan is to come back to COMO, order something cold and remain horizontal.
That is one of the reasons I like the hotel. It gives you two versions of Saint-Tropez in the same stay: the social one across the water and the considerably quieter one waiting when you return.
COMO, Cheval Blanc or Château de La Messardière?
These three hotels create very different vacations.
I would choose Cheval Blanc St-Tropez for a couple celebrating something who wants a tiny, highly polished hotel directly on the Saint-Tropez side of the Gulf. I would choose Château de La Messardière for a family with younger children who will really use the elaborate kids club and larger resort setup.
COMO becomes particularly compelling for someone who likes contemporary design, wants more grounds and breathing room, or needs genuinely good two-bedroom accommodations. For a family of four with older children who wants a 103-square-meter two-bedroom suite and would prefer an eight-minute boat ride to sitting in traffic, it starts looking awfully clever.
Who I would book here
I particularly like COMO Le Beauvallon for couples who love historic hotels but do not want historically styled bedrooms, families with older children or teenagers, design-minded travelers and anyone who wants Saint-Tropez close enough to enjoy but far enough away to occasionally ignore.
I would choose another hotel if a supervised kids club is essential, if you want to walk directly out of your room into Saint-Tropez, or if your vision of a Riviera bathroom involves slightly more conventional boundaries. The location across the Gulf and the contemporary interiors are not compromises. They are the reasons to choose it.
