Le Mas Candille has passed a test I find more useful than almost any hotel award: a close friend loved it on her honeymoon, and a family client loved it this summer, roughly a decade later.
The hotel itself changed considerably in between. It reopened in 2024 after a complete Hugo Toro redesign and now feels like a very chic house in the South of France where someone has thoughtfully added two pools, an excellent restaurant and a Clarins spa. It sits above Mougins among gardens and countryside, while Cannes and Nice airport are both roughly 20 minutes away.
If you are looking for a luxury hotel near Cannes while quietly hoping not to actually stay in Cannes, I would start here.

The room advice I would know before booking
The most important thing about choosing a room at Le Mas Candille is not the room name. It is the building.
The hotel’s 46 rooms and suites are spread across three distinct areas. Le Mas is the original historic house, with 19 rooms and the most character. This is where I would start for a couple who wants the hotel to feel distinctly Provençal. La Bastide sits between the two pools and has several larger categories with pool or valley views, making it particularly practical for families. La Villa is quieter and more contemporary, with the hotel’s suites overlooking the hills toward Grasse.
I would also pay close attention to the view. Rooms can face the gardens, pool or Grasse valley, and if the valley view is available for a reasonable difference, I would ask for it specifically. The countryside outlook is part of the reason to stay up here rather than on the coast.
For a family of four, I would start with the Terrace Suite rather than asking an entry-level room to perform acts of spatial optimism. Several Deluxe categories work for three guests. This is exactly where good room advice matters, because spending slightly more on the right building and configuration can change the trip far more than simply booking the next category up.
Categories divide by view rather than square footage: garden, pool, or the valley toward Grasse. The valley rooms are the ones to request by name.
Why Mougins instead of Cannes?
Because you may want to visit Cannes without wanting Cannes to follow you home.
Le Mas Candille is about gardens, olive trees, countryside views and Mougins itself, with its galleries, old stone streets and restaurants. Cannes is close enough for lunch, shopping or a beach day, then you come back uphill and the volume drops considerably.
It is especially good as part of a longer South of France itinerary. Spend a few nights directly on the Mediterranean, then come here and change the pace without actually traveling very far. You keep the Côte d’Azur. You lose some of the Côte d’Azur logistics.
Two pools, with very different jobs
The main outdoor pool is family-friendly, set in the gardens with the POOL restaurant beside it. The second belongs to The Glow House Spa, a heated 25-meter indoor-outdoor pool reserved for adults.
I love this arrangement. Families do not spend the afternoon reminding children not to splash, and adults who would prefer nobody cannonball beside their book have somewhere else to go. Everyone wins.
The Clarins spa itself is substantial, with treatment rooms opening onto private terraces, plus a sauna, hammam, cold pool and gym. There comes a point, usually somewhere around day six of Europe, when the appropriate cultural activity is a massage.
Two pools, and they read completely differently. This is the one that fills up; the spa pool is the quieter half of the estate.
Is Le Mas Candille good for families?
Yes, but I would describe it as a sophisticated hotel that welcomes families rather than a traditional family resort.
The main pool welcomes children, several rooms and suites accommodate three or four, and the hotel offers seasonal children’s programming. In summer 2026, the kids club included things like baking, pétanque, mocktail workshops and herbarium making. I would always confirm the exact dates before promising it to your children months in advance.
There are no waterslides and nobody dressed as a mascot. This is France. Children swim, eat very good bread, make something involving herbs and eventually fall asleep.
For the right family, that sounds pretty excellent.
Couples should not overlook it
My friend chose Le Mas Candille for her honeymoon about ten years ago and loved it. The renovation changed the look, but not the reasons it works romantically: intimate scale, hillside views, gardens, beautiful meals and enough distance from the coast to feel tucked away.
Hugo Toro’s redesign makes it even more interesting now, with ochres, deep greens, natural woods and a slightly unexpected 1960s California influence rather than the usual pale Riviera formula. It feels stylish without trying terribly hard to convince you that it is stylish, which I always appreciate.
Who I would book here
I particularly like Le Mas Candille for honeymooners who want something less obvious than a grand Riviera palace, families who want luxury without a huge resort, couples doing a South of France road trip and anyone whose brief is essentially, “We want Cannes nearby, but not all over us.”
I would choose somewhere directly on the coast if waking up to the Mediterranean is central to the fantasy, or if you want to walk onto the Croisette every evening. Le Mas Candille is countryside, gardens and a slower rhythm. That is not the compromise. That is what you are buying.
Three nights works nicely as part of a larger itinerary. Four gives you enough time to enjoy the hotel rather than using it as a particularly attractive parking place between day trips. June and September would be my first choices for couples, while July and August make sense for families when the seasonal programming is running.
